Graduation Application

At the University of Belize, students who complete their studies must apply for completion at the Records Office.

If you plan to complete your UB studies in 2022 you should have already submitted your Application for Completion Form to the Office of Records. You should have already received an official response to your application detailing the last set of courses you should take before being cleared for graduation. If you have not yet gotten this response letter please contact the Records Office using the button below

Those who completed in December of 2021 should have already received their All Clear for Graduation letters.  Once you receive this letter you are on the University’s Official Graduation List.

At the end of the Second Semester (June 2022) and again at the end of the Summer Semester (August 2022) the Records Office will send out All Clear for Graduation Letters to those who complete their academic requirements respectively.

Once cleared for Graduation seniors indicate if they plan to participate in the annual graduation ceremony by filing in the official graduation participation survey which goes out in February of every year.

Graduation Participation Fee

The graduation participation fee covers the cost of staging a memorable and inspiring face-to-face or virtual ceremony including all the related expenses. The graduation fee is $150.00 and is payable before the deadline of August 31, 2022.  The fee can be paid online into your student account from Atlantic Bank, Belize Bank or in person at the account’s office on any UB campus. If you pay online, please be sure to send proof of payment to [email protected] and you will receive an official UB receipt in a few days. Be reminded that to participate in any of UB’s graduation ceremonies you must pay the graduation fee no later than August 31st.

If you do not plan to participate in a graduation ceremony you do not have to pay this fee.

Dates and Venues of the 2022 Graduation Ceremonies

The university is planning two face-to-face graduation ceremonies for 2022.  The first will be in Belize City for students who studied at the Belize City, Belmopan and Central Farm Campuses.  The second ceremony will be in Punta Gorda for students who studied at the Punta Gorda Campus.

All of these ceremonies are scheduled to be Face to Face ceremonies unless public rules responding to the COVID Pandemic change and force us to hold a virtual ceremony instead. The dates, venues and intended audience of the ceremonies are listed below.

On Saturday, October 15, UB will host the first graduation ceremony at the Civic Center in Belize City for students who studied at the Belize City, Belmopan and Central Farm Campuses.  The ceremony will run from 10:00 am sharp to 12:00 noon.

On Sunday, October 23, UB will host its second graduation ceremony at the Toledo Community College Auditorium for all students who studied at the Punta Gorda Campus.  The ceremony will start at 10:00 am sharp.

SPECIAL NOTE FOR STUDENTS WHO PREFER A SUNDAY CEREMONY:

Any student who is unable to participate in the Saturday ceremony in Belize City due to religious reasons is welcome to participate in the Sunday ceremony in Punta Gorda with the understanding that such travel to Punta Gorda will have to be covered by the student.

Students who are not from the Punta Gorda campus who decide to participate in the Punta Gorda ceremony must inform the Office of Student Affairs and can do so by using the Contact Us form at the end of this web page

Last Chance to Participate in a 2022 Graduation Ceremony

Although the official survey has gone out to tentative graduates and the list of those who will participate in a graduation ceremony this year has been created, the university is allowing any other student who now wants to participate in a graduation ceremony and did not fill out the survey to do so at this time.  A small window of two weeks has been created for those who have not filled out the survey and want to participate in a graduation ceremony.  Please take note: the survey which follows below will only remain open until the end of May.

New Virtual Rehearsal

The university is moving away from face to face graduation rehearsal sessions to save students time and the cost of travel. In lieu of face-to-face sessions, all graduands will be informed exactly what they need to do to participate and maintain the professional effect that the university expects. In addition, all graduands are now required to report inside the Civic Center or Toledo Community College Auditorium no later than 1 hour before their respective graduation ceremony. We will upload detailed instructions at a later date.

Distribution of Graduation Regalia and Taking of Graduation Portraits/Pictures

Each tentative graduate who filled out the graduation participation survey to say they will participate in a university graduation ceremony and pays the $150 participation fee, will receive a new graduation gown, cap, tassel and stole. Those tentative Bachelor Graduates who have achieved honors will receive academic honor cords to drape over their gowns. To save time and money, the entire set of regalia will be distributed to students at the same time so graduands only have to come in to campus once before graduation.  Tentative graduates will take different pictures depending on the type of ceremony.  Please take note of the details below:

If UB hosts Face to Face Graduation Ceremonies

In the event we have face to face ceremonies we won’t need any official graduation portraits but we want you to have the opportunity to take as many photos as you would like in your graduation regalia and with your family or friends.  To make this happen we will have a professional photographer at each location where tentative graduates will collect their regalia.  You can then make your own arrangements with the photographer to get your pictures taken at your expense.  Our selected photographers are professional and affordable.

If UB hosts one Virtual Graduation Ceremony

In the event of a virtual ceremony we must get an official portrait for each person who will participate in the ceremony.  In this case the university will cover the cost of you taking a formal graduation portrait.

To ensure your official portraits come out as good as possible we ask that you come prepared to take a portrait. This means shave, get your hair cut or done and wear your graduation clothing and shoes if you want to look your best in your photos.

We will inform you of whether we will have a face to face ceremony or virtual in advance so you will know which type of picture to come prepared to take.

Dress Code

Standard dress code for the graduation will be as follows:

Males

Dress shirt with necktie as the V neck on the graduation gown will highlight your necktie. Dark coloured trousers or dress jeans with dress shoes look very smart but please, don’t wear athletic socks

Females

If you wear a dress it should not be longer than 15 inches above your ankle. The graduation gown has a V neck so plan for your jewelry to be highlighted.

Invitations

In consideration of the required Covid19 health protocols, and to keep the audience at a safe size and distance, this year the university will give each tentative graduate three (3) invitations to the graduation ceremony. Graduands will be able to collect their invitations at the campus where they studied when they come in to collect their academic regalia between the 5th of September and the 8 of September, 2022.

Note: Each invitation is for ONE person only

Photographers

Only the professional photographers authorized by the University of Belize and provided with identification tags will be allowed to take pictures in front of the stage during the ceremony. Family and friends will need to take pictures from their seats. This requirement is to facilitate the smooth flow of graduands to and from the stage during the distribution of diplomas and degrees. This will also ensure that the official photographers will capture a picture of each graduate. The professional photographers will be listed on this page as soon as they are identified so you can arrange to purchase photographs if you so desire.
