The Bioinformaticals Club

The Bioinformaticals Club

Overview:

Bioinformatics is a growing field around the world as the organization and analysis of biological data  become more and more relevant. Bioinformatics is dynamic and interdisciplinary as it can be used in different fields such as medicine, genetics, metabolomics, agriculture, biotechnology, computational biology, computer modeling, and environmental health, just to name a few. Within this club, The Bioinformaticals, we strive to provide an environment of learning as we explore different ways of analyzing a range of data. Apart from being on the computer, we also hang out and relax together – building friendship and connection with one another whether on campus or off-campus.

Mission:

The mission of the club is to introduce bioinformatics to UB students and learn different techniques to analyze biological data that may be helpful to them in their future career or study.

Objectives:

  • To learn to analyze genomic, metabolomic, and proteomic data using different tools that are free and often used by other researchers
  • To connect and form relationships with like-minded peers and develop interpersonal skills
  • To develop curiosity, critical thinking and creativity in students
