UB ACM Student Chapter

Founded in 1947, the Association for Computing Machinery (ACM) is the world’s largest scientific and educational computing society. For over 70 years, ACM has helped computing professionals to be their most creative, connect to peers, and look to the future – daring their members to be the best computing professionals they can be. On September 3, 2019, ACM’s Chief Operating Officer officially chartered the University of Belize (UB) ACM Student Chapter. This historic charter makes the UB ACM Student Chapter the second ACM Chapter in Central America and a part of the growing network of almost 100,000 members that comprise more than 180 professional chapters and more than 680 student chapters worldwide.

The UB ACM Student Chapter is a bridge between the international ACM and the Students of UB.and it provides students opportunities to play active roles in the association through its activities such as technical talks, learning forums, field trips, robotics, tutoring, Hour of Code events, gaming, and programming contests which facilitate communication and collaboration within the university’s computer science community and with computing communities outside the institution. This enhances learning via the exchange of ideas among students and between students, established professionals, and the wider local, regional, and global computing communities.
