UB Black Jaguars Place 2nd in Ahmadiyya Basketball League
The 8th Edition of the Ahmadiyya Basketball League ended on May 14th 2023, with the University of Belize’s Male Basketball team placing 2nd in the U22 Category.
The matches were played on Sundays in Belize City and Our Jaguars showed their discipline, resilience and dedication by moving from the bottom position in Week 5 to the Sub-Champions at the end of the 5 month season.
In the semi-finals, the UB Black Jaguars were the Underdogs (Ranked 6th) as they faced #1 Ranked Benguche Flames of Dangriga. Stepping up to the challenge, they Defeated Dangriga’s Top team and proceeded to the Final Match Vs Northside Ballers, but fell short in the final seconds, losing by 2 points.
Entering Varsity Teams in off-season tournaments is one of ways the Department of Sports & Recreation has continuously been encouraging the elevation of standards and expectations of the Student Athletes of the Black Jaguar Varsity Program. This result is a measurable indicator of how the current varsity program is impacting individual athlete development and team success.
